It’s Allergy Season! 5 Tips to Breath Easier

Spring is finally here, which means flowers and trees are in full bloom. While it’s a beautiful sight, it also means seasonal allergies for millions of people. Fortunately, there are several strategies you can take to make this allergy season bearable.

How to Survive Allergy Season

  1. Clear the air

You spend most of your time in your home, so make it an allergen-free zone by cleaning regularly and investing in a HEPA (high-efficiency particulate) air filter to remove harmful irritants. Go the extra mile by adding houseplants that scrub and clean the indoor air from pollutants. We recommend English Ivy, Bamboo, and snake plants.

  1. Know your pollen count

During high pollen days, which typically occur on windy days, keep outdoor activities to a minimum. Also, avoid opening your windows, use central air if possible, and shower before bedtime to eliminate pollen. To learn Utah’s pollen count and how to reduce pollen exposure, head to Intermountain Allergy & Asthma.

  1. Plan ahead with allergy medicine

If high pollen counts are in effect, start taking allergy medications before your symptoms start. If your allergies are unbearable, consider allergy injections and/or sublingual allergy treatments to reduce symptoms and find long-term relief.

  1. Avoid certain foods

At the height of allergy season, avoid eating certain fruits and vegetables to keep your symptoms in check. Instead, head off allergies with a cup of tea, local honey, onions, yogurt, fatty fish, kiwi, and pineapple. These specific foods are full of nutrients to keep you healthy while easing your allergy symptoms.

  1. Visit Lakeview Family Medicine
